    After your free consultation, the divorce lawyer will send you a more extensive form for you to complete. The form is condensed into three pages and only request the details necessary that are needed to draft your petition. Once returned your petition will be drafted and ready for you to sign. You will come into our office to sign the form and make the necessary payment. For persons who are living overseas, the petition will be sent by email with instructions to sign and return.

    The Petition is Submitted to The Court

    The petition once signed is submitted to the court for vetting. Once the court is satisfied, the petition will be signed and returned to the divorce attorney. The petition must then be served on the Respondent by an independent third party. After the petition is served an application for decree nisi is then made and six weeks later an application for decree absolute. The decree marks the end of your divorce.

    How Long Does it Take to Get  a Divorce in Jamaica?

    Divorce refers to the legal termination of a marriage usually represented by a Decree Absolute from the Supreme Court.
